Today Elinor went to her first parade. All the cities in Utah (especially in Salt Lake County) have city days around this time of year. Herriman is having their days this weekend. Today was the parade. Brad's shop was part of the parade, so I decided to take Elinor. We went and found a nice shady spot and watched. Here are some of the pictures:
This is Elinor's first time in the grass without a blanket or anything. Last time she was in the grass on a blanket, she broke out in red blotches. She seems OK today, though. And she LOVED it. She pulled it, she kicked her feet in it, she ate it. And she loved it.
This is hard to see, but it is a very cool float. It has bugs all over it. I think it was for Riverton City and their "court". The second picture is a little better. These are some cute pictures of Elinor. The first picture she turned around to look at me. In the second one she is watching the parade.
A Herriman anything is not complete without A LOT of horses! Elinor enjoyed them!
This is a pretty cool train. Each "car" was made out of a large bucket (like one of those huge, blue water buckets you can get for food storage) and is painted to look like a different animal. It was pulled by a tractor. I don't remember at all what it was for, but I liked it a lot!
This is Brad's "float". They had a couple of people ride their bikes in front of the trailer. Unfortunately, they were last and Brad had to go open the shop, so he didn't even get to ride his bike in the float as planned. Oh well. I tried to get a picture earlier, but for some reason the camera was acting up. I also missed a couple other shots. There was a 1967 dune buggy that I wanted to take a picture of for my dad. There was also this clown that was riding a very cool bike. The bike was two different bikes welded on top of each other. So the clown was really high riding this bike. It was super cool! Anyway, Elinor really liked it and we had fun. Next week we will go to the Riverton parade!

Zoo Trip
Today we ventured to the zoo. It was Elinor's first zoo trip. It was fun! Hot, but fun. What made it even more fun was that Elinor's four cousins were there. Here are some pictures of our adventure:
Here are some captions starting at the top left: this one is for Grandma and Grandpa Rowberry--we have a picture of Brad when he was little getting a drink from the same drinking fountain; here is a picture of Elinor and her cousins Tanner and Parker at the zebra cages; this is a funny picture of Elinor; the next two pictures are of us riding the carousel--we rode the kangaroo in honor of "the homeland"; this picture is of Elinor and her two cousins that are about the same age as she is; the next two pictures are of me and Elinor on the train--by this time we were both fairly hot and gross, but Elinor was happy to be out of the stroller; another funny picture of Elinor; Elinor at the zebra cages; another picture of Elinor and her two cousins her age; and finally, Elinor compared to a gorilla. We had so much fun! And yes I did see one of my students from this last year there. Crazy.

Bummer
So today was a very pretty day. I decided it would be fun to take Elinor to our pool for her first outdoor swimming adventure. It took us about an hour to get ready. I know what you're thinking, and hour? Really? Really. Because of all the cryptosporidium last year (it was really bad in Utah last year) there are extra precautions that need to happen before you get in the pool. Especially with an un-potty trained baby. Elinor had to have a complete bath first. So did I. Then I had to squeeze her into a swim diaper (apparently she has grown since the end of April). Now it was sunscreen time. I saw on the news this morning that the way the rays are hitting today that someone with fair skin can get sunburned in less than 5 minutes today. So I slathered. And I slathered. And I slathered. If you know us, you know we are pretty much the epitome of fair skin. Finally I squeezed her into her very cute swim suit (apparently she has grown A LOT since the end of April!). I got dressed and then we loaded up the stroller. We walked over to the pool. Then I saw the sign: Pool Closed. Boo. I'm so glad the management people let us know that the pool was closed. But the management here pretty much stinks, so I don't know what I was expecting. So know we are greasy from sunscreen and bummed that we didn't get to go swimming. Oh well. Maybe next time.
